Primary Training Program

We the Department of Medical Oncology engage in treatment using primarily chemotherapy against solid cancers in liaison with other department like surgery, internal medicine, and radiology.  Trainee physicians are required to understand comprehensive cancer treatment and chemotherapy applications, and to master the chemotherapy implementation, control of its side effects, pain and symptom.  Also, they are expected to understand and participate clinical developments of cancer medicine, especially how clinical tests go.


Training Staffs


Training Curriculum

  • 1st and 2nd years
    In the first and 2nd years of training, trainees are mainly assigned to inpatient treatment in the Department of Medical Oncology, Kyorin University Hospital.  After that, they experience practices both in general internal medicine and cancer treatment training, which is prerequisite for certifications of Japanese Society of Internal Medicine or Japanese Medical Society of Oncology.  The trainees are trained in rotation among departments in internal medicin,
  • 3rd year
    The trainees are assigned to National Cancer Center Hospital(Tsukiji) or to Cancer Institute Hospital.(Ariake)
  • Curriculum for certifications as a medical specialist of cancer chemotherapy by Japanese Society of Medical Oncology:
    • The curriculum composes of practice and lectures dedicated for the certification in rotation among plural departments.
    • Departments concerned in the rotation are: Hematology, Respiratory Medicine, Respiratory Surgery, Mammary Gland Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Dermatology, Cerebral Surgery, and Pediatrics.  Trainees choose two or more departments from those listed above for the training rotation.  One month or longer rotation shift in Palliative Care team is obligatory.
    • The lectures dedicated for the curriculum cover fields missing in the departments rotation.

Certifications as a medical specialist attainable for with the curriculum

Certified Internist by the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine. Special Gastroenterologist certified by the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology. Medical Specialist of Cancer Chemotherapy by Japanese Society of Medical Oncology. Certified Physician by Japanese Board of Cancer Therapy. And so on...
